Building Notre Dame
Built more than 800 years ago, before modern construction tools, the cathedral of Notre Dame is a beloved, iconic monument of Gothic architecture. The film was shot before the tragic 2019 fire but provides insight into how the great church managed to stay standing as well as why the world reacted with an outpouring of sadness and support for it. Featuring historians, scientists, architects and engineers, as well as 'The Pillars of the Earth' author Ken Follett, 'Building Notre Dame' explores how this masterpiece of human ingenuity, with its soaring arches and Rose Window, was created. Viewers will stand alongside the builders of yesterday and today to understand the vast architectural, technical, human, financial and political challenges which played out during its turbulent history.
