Legacy
Shot in Chicago, Legacy is a profoundly affecting work about one family's emergence from a legacy of poverty. Over a five-year period, director Tod Lending followed an African-American family passing through dramatic and unexpected transitions in the Henry Horner homes. The lives of three generations of powerful women are captured as they recover from the overwhelming hardship of the violent community. Threading the story together is the moving narration of Nikki, the youngest of the women, with the largest of ambitions. Shown in the 36th Chicago International Film Festival in 2000, the film won the Silver Hugo in the Documentary Competition and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary.
